Overview of Goals and Objectives

 

Goal 1: Empower

We empower CSUSB by offering technology-related information, services, skills, and equipment needed to succeed. We strive to help our community reach new levels of efficiency, fluency, and agility.

Objectives

1.1 - Student Success

Foster student success by identifying, investing in, and implementing technologies that support learning, collaboration, and career readiness. 

Outcomes

  • Students will have access to information technology in alignment with their needs and industry standards to support their success.
  • Students will increase their career readiness through experiencing training opportunities in industry standard software and tools.
  • Students will utilize technology to enhance their learning experience and support academic success.
1.2 - Professional and Career Development for IT Employees

Empower IT employees through continuous, equitable training and career development to cultivate a skilled, inclusive, and future-ready workforce that enhances organizational effectiveness and staff well-being. 

Outcomes

  • IT employees demonstrate increased technical proficiency, actively engage in knowledge-sharing, and adapt to evolving technology solutions to improve service delivery and organizational effectiveness.
  • A sustainable, future ready IT workforce is supported through intentional pipeline development, internal mobility, and alignment between professional development and long-term career goals.
  • IT employees will experience improved work-life balance and personal well-being because of flexible, supportive professional development opportunities and access to resources that accommodate diverse work styles and personal needs.
1.3 - Professional Development for Faculty and Staff

Leverage ITS expertise in technology, process improvement, and data analytics to support professional development. Empower campus partners and stakeholders to innovate and make data-informed decisions to enhance institutional agility. 

Outcomes

  • Campus partners and external stakeholders gain knowledge and practical skills, such as GenAI and Lean Six Sigma, leading to enhanced operational efficiency, innovation, and decision-making capacity.
  • Faculty and staff will demonstrate increased proficiency in technical core competencies related to campus systems and software. Supported by accessible and equitable training opportunities, this outcome will contribute to a more agile, skilled, and future-ready workforce whose development is aligned with both individual career goals and institutional priorities.
1.4 - Advancing University Technologies

Provide a sustainable and proactively updated technology plan that optimizes campus IT resources to support innovation, learning, research, and operational excellence.  

Outcomes

  • CSUSB will have regular technology replacement cycles.
  • CSUSB will align its IT investments with department needs.
  • CSUSB will optimize technology resource utilization and reduce silos.
  • CSUSB will have a comprehensive technology inventory.
  • ITS will be a strategic partner to university grant proposals.
  • CSUSB technology will meet security standards.
  • CSUSB will increase its data-driven decision-making capabilities.

 

Goal 2: Transform

We transform the way we work and learn at CSUSB by focusing on the human experience. We strive to offer efficient and impactfully designed systems that enable transformational experiences with the university for everyone.  

Objectives

2.1 - Proactive Digital Assistant

Transform myCoyote into an integrated, personalized digital assistant (“Cody”) that streamlines access to academic, financial, and administrative services, delivers timely notifications, and enables partners to complete university tasks digitally, thereby enhancing efficiency, engagement, and student success.

Outcomes

  • Applicants, students, faculty, and staff will have seamless access to academic, financial, employment, and administrative data via the myCoyote portal, mobile app, and chatbot.
  • Deliver timely and relevant information to students, faculty, and staff through the chatbot, myCoyote portal, and app. Ensure communications are role-specific and help audiences complete important tasks, become aware of campus services, meet deadlines, and overcome time and space barriers.
  • Enable faculty, staff, and administrators to complete all university-related business processes digitally through the myCoyote platform and chatbot, reducing reliance on paper-based or in-person workflows.
  • Expand the chatbot to serve as a central point for accessing information, sending proactive notifications, and handling service requests across various departments while increasing awareness, adoption, and engagement with the myCoyote portal, app, and chatbot through targeted outreach and user education.
2.2 - Improve Process Efficiencies

Lead a university-wide, customer-centric initiative to streamline and unify administrative processes to enhance efficiency, reduce barriers, and deliver a seamless campus experience to improve customer satisfaction.

Outcomes

  • Customers will experience improved efficiency while navigating administrative processes and engaging with campus services
  • Reduce the number of administrative barriers, eliminate unnecessary steps, and increase cross-departmental collaboration in processes
  • Increase the efficacy of employees performing administrative work
2.3 - University Technology Catalog

Lead a holistic, systematic approach to selecting, purchasing, and implementing shared IT solutions that align with university priorities, and streamline technology management across the university.

Outcomes

  • CSUSB will have improved visibility into IT need and capabilities
  • Technology solutions will be aligned with university and systemwide priorities
  • Operational efficiency will be increased
  • Administrative workload for reviewing and approving technology purchases will be reduced
  • The University Technology Catalog will support department technology purchases
  • CSUSB will reduce its annual software licensing costs
2.4 - Cybersecurity

Strengthen and centralize the university’s cybersecurity infrastructure to protect sensitive data, enable secure access to digital resources, and advance regional resilience and workforce development through the Security Operations Center.

Outcomes

  • ITS will proactively support and enhance CSUSB’s ability to identify cybersecurity risk, adopt cybersecurity best practices, and protect institutional digital resources.
  • ITS will leverage CSUSB’s Security Operation Center (SOC) for proactive cyber threat management, enhanced real-time threat detection, rapid incident response, and ongoing risk mitigation.
  • The Security Operation Center (SOC) will be a central cybersecurity hub for the CSU system and the Inland Empire, advancing workforce development and supporting the region’s cybersecurity resilience.

 

Goal 3: Innovate

We innovate by investing in breakthrough ideas, cutting-edge technologies, and thoughtful experimentation to fulfill the university's mission. ​

Objectives

3.1 - AI for the Student Experience

Harness the power of artificial intelligence to enhance the student experience by improving access to support services and enabling personalized engagement.

Outcomes

  • Students will experience faster, more helpful interactions with campus services through AI-powered tools
  • AI helps students connect with campus life based on their interests, needs, and identity.
  • AI enables early identification of students who may be struggling, prompting timely outreach.
  • Every CSUSB student has access to and understands how to responsibly use AI tools.
3.2 - AI for Operational Efficiency

Utilize AI tools to ethically support university operations by enhancing administrative productivity while empowering CSUSB to focus its efforts on transforming lives.

Outcomes

  • ITS will provide the university with the knowledge and guidelines to use AI tools to enhance their administrative work.
  • ITS will provide AI solutions that to improve operations and reduce the administrative burden.
3.3 - AI for Teaching, Learning, and Research

Support faculty, students, and researchers to leverage AI tools for enhanced teaching, learning, and research through targeted training, support, and access to advanced computational resources.

Outcomes

  • Faculty and students will increase their AI knowledge and skills.
  • Faculty and researchers will increase their use of AI tools in their teaching and research
  • Faculty and student researchers will increasingly leverage targeted nation-wide AI and data resources as well as high performance computing systems for their research activities.
3.4 - Immersive Learning Spaces

Design immersive learning environments that drive collaboration, enhance hybrid instruction, promote creativity and knowledge generation for faculty and students, and strengthen staff training to support institutional excellence across academic and operational work.

  • Increased Utilization of Immersive Learning Spaces
  • Increase Faculty Integration of Immersive Media
  • Improved Learning Outcomes and Engagement
