Your Questions, Answered

We know you may have questions as you support your student on their college journey. Here are answers to some of the most common ones—designed to give you peace of mind and help your student succeed at CSUSB.

Where can my student apply for a job? Can my student work on campus?

The CSUSB Career Center is a good place to start for information about on- and off-campus jobs, internships, career preparation and coaching, and more. Visit the Career Center website.

Are there any other ways to get Financial Help aside from FAFSA and CalGrants (scholarships)?

A number of scholarships opportunities are available through CSUSB’s academic colleges, departments, student organizations and community partners. For more information, visit the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarship’s Scholarship website.

If my son/daughter were to dorm, how would I know they would be safe?

The safety of students is a top priority. The CSUSB Department of Housing and Residential Education works with the University Police Department to provide a safe environment of student residents. For more information, visit the Housing and Residential Education Campus Safety website.

How safe is the campus?

CSUSB is regarded as one of the safest campuses in the California State University system, with the University Police Department providing public safety for students, faculty, staff and university guests. The UPD offers campus escorts, crime prevention programs and makes available campus crime statistics. For more information, visit the University Police Department’s Crime Information website.

What if I wanted access to my student's information, how can I get that?

All student records are maintained  accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. When a student reaches 18 years of age or attends an institution of postsecondary education at any age, the student becomes an “eligible student,” and all rights under FERPA transfer from the parent to the student. Download “A Parent Guide to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)” on the U.S. Department of Education’s Protecting Student Privacy website.

Do they sell alcohol on campus? And if so, how is that monitored?

Only beer and wine are sold on campus, and their consumption and sale is strictly controlled by the university. No one under the age of 21 is allowed to possess, transport or consume alcohol in their room or apartment. Students under the age of 21 in the presence of alcohol will be found in violation of the University Alcohol Policy.

Where can I go to pay for my students' tuition?

The CSUSB Student Financial Services office makes available convenient ways for students and their families to pay their tuition. For more information, visit the Student Financial Services Frequently Asked Questions webpage.
