Definitions

Project

A project is defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as "a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique work product, service, or result”.

For the purposes of the ITS Projects, a project is further elaborated as a unique collaborative effort, with a defined start and end date, that sets out to introduce, modify, or retire a process, product, or service. At the minimum, a project should require at least 80 hours of effort, have an identified Project Manager and Project Sponsor, and be substantiated by a Project Charter.

Within ITS, projects are classified according to size as either Small, Medium, Large, or X-Large based on various indicators including work effort involved, complexity, impact and priority.
