Dr. Jesus Canelon Hererra

Photo of Dr. Jesus CanelonJesus Canelon, Ph.D., holds a doctoral degree in Information Systems and Technology from Claremont Graduate University. Dr. Canelon has grant-funded more than $80,000 for Cyberlab (A cyber range that supports hundreds of students 24/7 with virtual workspace for hands-on activities such as networking, forensics, ethical hacking, and cloud-based training). Dr. Canelon has worked as an advisor for multiple graduate students. Dr. Canelon has the “Quality in Learning Technologies “(QLT) instrumental in developing online courses. Dr. Canelon holds the Security+ and ethical hacker certifications. He is an assistant professor at California State University, San Bernardino, and coordinator of the Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Analytics (MSCA). He has over 25 years of experience teaching a developing a wide range of curricula for higher education graduate school.

 

 

 

Dr. Tony Coulson

Photo of Dr. Tony CoulsonTony Coulson, Ph.D., is the executive director of the Cybersecurity Center and full professor of Information and Decision Science in the Jack H. Brown College at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB).  During his tenure at CSUSB, Tony has led more than 20 grant-funded cybersecurity projects totaling over $18 million. Dr. Coulson also led the establishment of a nationally acclaimed cybersecurity program that spans business, computer science, national security studies, criminal justice, and public administration. The program is designated as a Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security.

Dr. Coulson is a globally recognized cybersecurity expert and leads the CAE Community Cybersecurity Education (caecommunity.org) as an NSA National Resource Center for over 265 colleges and universities. He has consulted on cybersecurity issues for Congress, federal agencies, and private organizations. He belongs to several boards and has won numerous academic, national, and community awards. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Coulson had a successful industry career for over 17 years as an executive and an entrepreneur, starting his first successful technology business when he was 14 years old. He holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Claremont Graduate University.

 

Dr. Vincent Nestler

Photo of Dr. VIncent NestlerVincent Nestler, Ph.D., holds a doctoral degree in instructional design, masters in both network security from Capitol Technology University, and a M.A.T. from Columbia University. He is the author of the Principles of Computer Security, Lab Manual, published by McGraw Hill. Dr. Nestler is a cybersecurity consultant and educator with over 20 years of experience in network administration and security. He served as a Data Communications Maintenance Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. During his service, he designed and implemented the training for Marines assigned to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Computer Emergency Response Team. He also served as the Assistant Operations Officer (training) for the Joint Broadcast System, during its transition to DISA.

Since 2007, Dr. Nestler has been integral to training CyberCorps® students at Idaho State University and at California State University, San Bernardino. He is the principal investigator for the NICE Challenge Project (nice-challenge.com) – serving over 400 schools, nationwide. The NICE Challenge Project develops real-world hands-on scenarios that provide students with cybersecurity workforce experience before joining the workforce. Currently, he is an assistant professor at California State University, San Bernardino. Dr. Nestler has held numerous professional certifications to include the Security+, Network+, and A+, ACE, MPE, MCSE, MCT, RHCE and others. He has over 25 years of experience teaching and has been instrumental in developing a wide range of curriculum, from grade school to secondary education, higher education and graduate school.

 

Ms. Barbara Brough

Ms. Barbara BroughMs. Barbara Brough lives in College Park, Maryland, and is a graduate of California State University, San Bernardino, with dual bachelor’s degrees in economics and finance (2004 - 2009), and dual master’s degrees in business administration for cybersecurity and finance (2013), with a master’s certificate in computer science programming and system administration (2013).  Ms. Brough attended Beijing University where she studied Chinese language, history, and culture between 2006-2009 and has traveled extensively throughout China. Ms. Brough is currently employed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington D.C. as the technical lead for the Federal Risk Authorization and Management Program (FedRAMP) Joint Authorization Board (JAB), working as a cloud security architect from 2018 to present.  FedRAMP is the Cloud security compliance program for the federal government, under the FedRAMP Authorization Act (2022), for which DHS is a signatory along with the General Services Administration and the Department of Defense. In addition to working in the role of a security architect, Ms. Brough also advises DHS on matters of security, risk, and compliance, as well as performing policy writing and security process pilot development.  Prior to working at DHS, Ms. Brough was the primary incident responder and digital forensic analyst for the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, New York, between 2013 to 2018, where Ms. Brough conducted digital forensic investigations related to possible network compromises and acceptable use violations.  In addition, Ms. Brough developed forensic procedures around evidence collection in collaboration with the Army JAG, as well as implemented network hardening processes across the academy in collaboration with the Army Research Laboratory (ARL). Ms. Brough also conducted security research and implemented application and image testing for the academy and worked directly with USMA cadets related to network security issues.  Ms. Brough holds multiple cybersecurity certifications including EC-COUNCIL (C|EH, C|ND, C|HFI), GIAC (GCIH, GCFA), and ISC2 (CISSP).

 

Dr. Essia Hamouda

Dr. Essia HamoudaDr. Essia Hamouda, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Information and Decision Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino. She is the SAP coordinator at the JHBC. Since graduating with a Ph.D. in Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California Riverside, she held a postdoctoral fellow at INRIA France, a faculty at the Anderson Graduate School of Management at University of California-Riverside, and a faculty at the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Chico State University.

Dr. Hamouda has taught numerous graduate and undergraduate courses in Information Systems and Technology, Business Analytics, and Supply Chain Management at California State University, San Bernardino. Her great passion towards empowering and attracting students and especially women to the technical field, led her to founding the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) chapter at CSUSB in 2018.

She is the recipient of the 2020 Outstanding Service Award and 2021 Outstanding Teaching Award, of the College of Business at California State University, San Bernardino. She is also the recipient of two external grants - a NIH grant and a USDA grant (Project DA-FANH), which main objectives is to enrich the quality of education and research in under-represented communities.

Dr. Hamouda’s research interests include resource optimization in sensor networks, network security, data driven decision making, and system performance evaluation with interest in applying analytical modeling techniques to practical problems in computer systems and operations management. She has authored many articles in prestigious journals such as the European Journal of Operational Research, the Journal of Stochastic Analysis and Applications and the International Journal of Communication Systems. She has presented her research in national and international conferences and has been member of steering and program committees of many international conferences. She has served on Editorial Boards of numerous journals, both as a member and as a reviewer.

She has hosted numerous workshops in data analytics and programming at CSUSB. She is the coordinator of the Data Analytics Working Group.
