Upper Division Transfer

The transfer process is different if you’re coming from a school in the United States or outside the country with 60 transferable units (or 90 quarter units) or more. Please select the correct option below for details on how to transfer to CSUSB.


General Application Requirements

Below are the general requirements for applying to the university as an upper division international transfer student:

  • Transfer in good standing from the last college/university attended
  • Academic requirements (see details below)
  • English language proficiency (see details below)
  • English translation of non-English documents

  • Submission of financial support statement (bank statement)
  • Copy of passport

Requirements for an Undergraduate Transfer from a Foreign School

If you have been attending a foreign college or university, please use the information below to complete your application:

Academic Requirements:

Minimum 2.0 overall college GPA

Official transcripts sealed in an envelope by school (official transcripts are required from all institutions attended)

English Language Proficiency Requirement can be met by:

TOEFL (iBT 61 or PBT 500) or IELTS (5.5 total band score). Must be valid within the last two years.

Successful completion of level 3 of CSUSB English Language Program

If you attended full-time an institution at the secondary level (or above) for at least three years, where English is the native language of the country or the principal language of instruction for the entire college was in English, you may be eligible for a TOEFL waiver and will not need to take the English proficiency test. Requirements for an Undergraduate Transfer from a U.S. College

If you have been attending a college or university in the United States, please use the information below to complete your application:

  1. Academic Requirements:
    • Minimum 2.0 overall college GPA
    • Official transcripts sealed in an envelope by school (official transcripts are required from all institutions attended)
    • Completion of the following four basic skills courses with grade of “C-” or better in each course:
      • Freshman Composition
      • College Algebra (or baccalaureate level transferable math course equivalent)
      • Critical Thinking
      • Speech/Oral Communication
  2. English Language Proficiency Requirement can be met by:
    • Equivalent freshman composition course passed with a grade of “C-” or better
