Austen Bates 

Outstanding Undergraduate Student in French - Austen Bates

Austen Bates received his B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) in French Language and Cultures in May 2025 after studying in Aix-en-Provence with the CSU International Programs. With his eyes set on a career in teaching, a desire to further hone his French language skills, and a love for all things French, he took full advantage of this cultural immersion experience. His global mindset, intimate familiarity with France, and personal experiences abroad will clearly inspire his students to think beyond borders and embrace other cultures. Besides being a passionate Francophile, Austen is also a nature enthusiast. Having completed the marathon hike up San Gorgonio, it is little wonder that he climbed Paul Cézanne's Mont Sainte-Victoire while living in Aix-en-Provence! There is no doubt about it, when faced with a challenge, Austen will climb every mountain and ford every stream.
