Outstanding Graduate Student in Spanish - Gabriela Graziani-Ramírez

Gabriela

Gabriela Graziani-Ramirez is a very dedicated and productive student with outstanding academic and teaching skills. Given her academic excellence, Gabriela was hired in 2021 to co-develop three Spanish language and culture textbooks for Criminal Justice Spanish as part of a three-year federal, multi-campus grant project. In this capacity, Gabriela developed textbook content, assessments, audio files, and other support materials. Throughout this project, Gabriela consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, expertise, and professionalism. Overall, her role for this project was instrumental, and the resulting textbook materials are now being used in specialized Spanish language courses at CSUSB, at CSUS, and elsewhere.

Gabriela is also an excellent educator with natural patience and friendly and engaging manners. She effortlessly builds rapports with her students, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere conducive to learning. [Dr. Carmen Dagastino]

Outstanding Students in French

Cameron Miller

Cameron Cameron Miller graduated Cum Laude in December 2023 with a double Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and French (French Studies Concentration). Clearly an exceptional student, Cameron is also a quintessential lifelong learner. A bonafide Francophile, he is keenly aware of the advantages of being multilingual and sensitive to other cultures. When he learned that he could study philosophy and French in Europe through CSU International Programs, he was over the moon. Always eager to expand his knowledge and broaden his horizons, he spent the 2022-2023 academic year in Paris, receiving a Switzer Scholarship for his study abroad. This fall, Cameron is headed to Japan for a brand new set of adventures, having been admitted to the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program, or JET Program.  We are so proud to have him as a CSUSB alumnus and are delighted to honor him with this award. [Dr. Elizabeth Martin]

MaKelsey Sibille

MaKelseyMaKelsey Sibille received her B.A. in French Language and Cultures from CSUSB with a Minor in Speech-Language Pathology in May 2024. A truly exceptional student, with an astonishing work ethic and excellent skills in French, MaKelsey has been one of the very top performing students in our French program, earning an impressive 3.958 GPA in her major. In addition, MaKelsey has taken full advantage of opportunities on our campus during her studies, serving as a French Language Tutor in the Multimedia Language Center (MLC) and Research Assistant in the Language Speech Science Lab, among other activities. Indeed, she is a person with multiple talents, a consummate professional, and someone who doesn’t shy away from a challenge.  As a case in point, MaKelsey has been admitted to the Communication Sciences and Disorders Master program at Loma Linda University and will be pursuing her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology starting this fall! Lady Caterine Guillén

Lady Caterine Guillén

Lady Caterine Guillén is an excellent first Gen student in our Department of World Languages and Literatures. She is a proud mom of two wonderful children. She is a Dean’s list student who is going to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish with two concentrations - Hispanic Language, Literature and Civilization, and Hispanic Studies. Her academic performance exceeds expectation.

Guillén is also the president of Los Amigos Spanish Club at CSUSB, and an active student always helping her peers not only in the class setting, but also in the community. She is a generous volunteer on campus with different organizations and campus events. She is an exceptional student. Her attitude and valuable day to day input is such a positive element in the overall chemistry of the classes. [Dr. Bibiana Diaz-Rodriguez]

Wendy Villanueva

Wendy

Wendy has been an exemplary student from the moment she walked into my classroom. Punctual, humble, eloquent, and inquisitive, she quickly stood out from other students. Always eager to participate, Wendy takes an active role in contributing to class discussions with insightful comments and analyzes. Respectful and mindful of others, she never monopolized any discussion, on the contrary, Wendy went out of her way to motivate her peers to participate in class. In fact, these were the moments where her leadership skills were made evident, for not only would she incentive her peers to be more engaged in the lesson, but she would also assist them whenever they needed help completing an assignment or class activity.

She has all the makings of a promising educator: curiosity, kindness, intelligence, dedication, and an outstanding work ethic. [Dr. Esteban Córdoba]

Outstanding WLL Undergraduate Student

Wendy Villanueva

In addition to being recognized as an Outstanding Student in Spanish, Wendy Villanueva is recognized as Outstanding WLL Undergraduate Student.

Wendy’s academic excellence, further evidenced in her outstanding G.P.A. is, nevertheless, a mere a reflection of her human quality. Rarely have I met so young a person in my years of instruction who was as unselfish, humble, and respectful as Wendy. Wendy’s insatiable curiosity and unselfishness inspired her peers every week to fully immerse in Latin American and Latino culture and enrich their world outlook, whether it was by motivating the class to inquire further into a topic or by helping clarify lesson points or by encouraging them to participate in Sigma Delta Pi related events and activities. [Dr. Esteban Córdoba]
