What the Benefit covers:

CSU Application Fee: NO

CSUSB Confirmation Deposit: Yes, please request to get this fee waived using your mycoyote veterans portal or email Jespinoza@csusb.edu with proof of benefits. 

CSUSB Tuition and Fees: YES 100%

Books and Supplies: YES 100%

Basic Housing Allowance (BAH) or Monthly Housing Allowance: YES, see rates.

Stipend at the end of the month: NO

Full Time/Part Time at: CSUSB

New Students Using VA Benefits at CSUSB: 

New Students Using Chapter 31- Vocational Readiness Program at CSUSB: 
  • Apply to CSUSB and get fully admitted. 
  • Apply for Chapter 31 benefits or contact your VR&E (Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor) and start the transfer of benefits process with them. Request a P.O. Authorization for CSUSB and another for Follett (CSUSB-Coyote Bookstore). 
    • Do not forget to fill out all documentation needed for your benefits. All beneficiaries are different, so contact your VR&E to start the process. 
  • Pay confirmation deposit when it's due or email vsc@csusb.edu letting us know that you will be using Chapter 31 to get this fee waived. You must provide proof of eligibility (attach when sending email).   
  • Attend Student orientation (SOAR).
  • Register for CSUSB courses. Courses must be degree applicable in order for the School Certifying Official (SCO) to certify your enrollment. 
  • Request for your enrollment to be certified at CSUSB using your MyCoyote Portal. 
  • First certification will be sent to the VA at the beginning of the term or when you request it. No tuition and fees will be reported. CSUSB will place a deferment on your account so, you do not get dropped due to non-payment
    • Textbooks- CSUSB SCO will send the student a memorandum via email stating their PO numbers, if provided by the VR&E Counselor. If not, you will have to see if the Coyote Bookstore has one on file. SCO does not have access to the Follett PO systems. If no PO is found please contact your VR&E Counselor.
    • Parking Pass- Once we process your first request for certification, we will send an email to our Student Financial Services Office to charge your account for a Parking Pass.

      If you do not need a parking pass please email jespinoza@csusb.edu informing him.

      When your parking pass is ready, CSUSB parking services will email your MyCoyote email with instructions on how to pick them up.

    • Second certification will be sent to the VA after census date. Tuition, fees, any other changes in your enrollment will be reported. Any courses not selected for certification will not be certified.

Continuing Students Using Benefits:

Continuing Students Using Chapter 31- Vocational Readiness Program at CSUSB: 
  • Check your PO authorizations via your MyCoyote Student portal (Veteran Benefits portal) to see when your PO expires. Make sure you have two PO's listed.  (See comment sections). If expired, email your VR&E Counselor.  
  • Check for CSUSB department HOLDS, Advising Holds, MMR HOLDS, Etc. 
  • Register for CSUSB courses. Courses must be degree applicable in order for the School Certifying Official (SCO) to certify your enrollment. 
  • Request for your enrollment to be certified at CSUSB using your MyCoyote Portal.
