About Sociology at CSUSB

As a sociology major, you’ll study social relationships, institutions, and cultural dynamics while gaining the tools to analyze and address complex social issues—from inequality and diversity to globalization and social justice.

Careers in Sociology
The B.A. degree in sociology prepares you to pursue graduate studies in sociology, social work, counseling and other professional programs, or to land a position in social services, education, criminal justice, law, healthcare, or at a non-profit organization or in government.
According to the American Sociological Association, the deep understanding of human behavior acquired from your studies, along with critical thinking, communication skills and cultural competence, will serve you well across a wide range of roles.

Sample Courses
Sociology of Education
The course will explore the social organization of education in the United States, including K-12 and postsecondary institutions. Topics include school segregation, tracking, and achievement gaps.
Sociology of Families
A systematic and comparative analysis of family structures, processes, and effects of social change on families. Topics include: marriage, reproduction, child rearing, and diversity of family structures.
Political Sociology
Examination of political process from the perspective of sociology, exploring in depth the nature, distribution and exercise of power, and related areas of interest.
