Start Strong at Orientation

No matter your path to CSUSB—first-year, transfer, returning, graduate, or international student—Orientation is your first big step into life as a Coyote. This program connects you with fellow students, introduces you to campus, and guides you to the resources that will support your success. It’s the official start of your CSUSB experience and a moment you’ll carry with you well beyond your time on campus.

That’s why we offer orientation programming designed specifically for the parents, guardians, and families of first-year students. These family-friendly sessions provide insights into campus life, resources, and ways you can support your student’s success—all in a welcoming environment that’s suitable for all ages. What is one piece of advice you would give to a new student? Try new things, step out of that comfort zone, and be open to change. You are capable of great things, and the experience is so rewarding!

What is one piece of advice you would give to a new student? Ask for help, use the resources provided to you on campus. If you plan to live on campus, go to all events offered so you can make friends.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a new student? My advice to a new student would be to get involved on campus, make friends. Also explore the campus to know where your classes are and to find good study spots.

Orientation Tips for Success

Orientation is an essential part of becoming a Coyote. Whether you’re a first-year, transfer, returning, international, or graduate student, Orientation gives you the tools, connections, and confidence to start strong at CSUSB. Participation in the full program is required to lift your Orientation hold and register for classes, but more than that—it’s your chance to explore campus, meet new people, and start your Coyote journey with confidence.

Tips for Success:

Complete Pre-Orientation

Log into your myCoyote portal and finish Pre-Orientation before your Orientation day. This helps you get familiar with campus resources and sets you up to make the most of your time in person.

Get Connected with Nearpeer

Join Nearpeer to meet other admitted Coyotes, ask questions, and share tips. Arrive at Orientation already knowing a few friendly faces.

Learn How to Start Building Your Coyote Community

Upload Your Student ID Photo

Set up your Coyote OneCard – your digital student ID – before you arrive. It’s your key to campus services like the library, meal plans, and printing.

Plan for Accommodations

If you need disability-related accommodations, contact Services to Students with Disabilities at (909) 537-5238 at least 72 hours before your Orientation date.

Bring the Essentials to Orientation

Pack comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, a backpack or bag, and anything else you’ll need to be prepared for the day and stay comfortable.
