Earn College Credit Without Pursuing a Degree

Want to take college classes and earn credit without committing to a full degree program? At CSUSB, you can enroll as a non-degree (non-matriculated) student and explore courses that fit your goals and interests. Admission requirements and application deadlines for degree-seeking students don’t apply here—making it easier to get started. Explore the options below to learn what’s required and how to apply.

Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education gives you the chance to earn college credit without committing to a full degree program. It’s a great way to explore a career path while receiving credit for relevant high school or work-based learning—credit that can later count toward a degree or certificate.

If you’re interested in the Designated Subjects Teaching Credential Program, you’ll need a high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least five years of verifiable work experience in the vocation, skill, or trade you plan to teach.

College of Extended and Global Education

The College of Extended and Global Education (CEGE) makes it possible for learners of all ages and backgrounds to reach their educational goals. From degrees and certificate programs to professional development and personal enrichment opportunities, you’ll find flexible options offered at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses.

Through the Online High School Program (offered through CEGE's Office of Professional and Continuing Education), high school students can complete courses in English, math, science, social science, or a foreign language—including Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

The College also offers the Open University Program, which allows community members to take regular undergraduate-level courses without formally applying to CSUSB. As long as you meet the prerequisites, you can enroll in classes listed in the CSUSB course catalog on a space-available, instructor-approved basis and earn college credit along the way.

For details, visit the College of Extended and Global Education website or call (909) 537-5975.
