CSUSB chemistry graduates have earned M.D. and Ph.D. degrees and have become teachers, college professors and heads of companies, applying their skills in environmental health, pharmaceuticals, criminalistics and medical technology.

Sample Courses

Applied Linear Algebra

Topics will include solving systems of linear equations, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, vector products, orthogonal projections, and vector parametrizations of curves in two and three dimensions.

Biochemistry I

Structure and function of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids. Membrane transport, enzyme mechanism and kinetics. Metabolism of biomolecules, including carbohydrate metabolism, fatty acid catabolism, and amino acid catabolism, as well as the citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation.

Principles of Organic Chemistry I

Detailed study of organic molecules and their structures, properties, stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms, and synthesis.

Meet Student David Murillo

David Murillo, student in the College of Natural Sciences
David Murillo, who is majoring in chemistry with a minor in physics, was awarded a Goldwater Scholarship, one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in the United States for natural sciences, engineering and mathematics. He was one of 413 Goldwater Scholars named for 2023.
