Database Access:
PDC students may access all the online resources of the John M. Pfau Library.
Research Support and Instruction:
CSUSB Librarians are available to help students with their research and other library-related questions. Librarians can meet online via Zoom or in person at the San Bernardino Campus. You can chat with a librarian using our Ask a Librarian service during research assistance hours. Or you can make a one-on-one appointment with a librarian, just book the appointment online.
Faculty, if you would like to have a librarian provide a research instruction session for your upper division class taught through PDC, use the online request form. If you have questions about library instruction, contact our Instruction Librarian, William Ortiz.
Laptops, iPads and Multimedia Equipment:
Laptops and iPads are available to be checked out for a semester on a first come, first served basis at the PDC Library. Checkout times are during normal library hours beginning one week prior to the start of each semester.
Multimedia equipment such as cameras are available for short-term loans of three days at a time.
Print Library Materials:
The PDC Library has a circulating collection of books in the Helene A. Hixon Information Center, along with a collection of reserve textbooks. In addition, faculty, students and staff at PDC may request items from the Pfau Library via Intralibrary Loan, or from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan.
Intralibrary Loan (Book Delivery):
Students, faculty and staff at PDC may request items physically located in the Pfau Library to be sent to PDC. Requests should be made via the library’s OneSearch interface. You may request to pick up the item either from the Palm Desert Campus Library or from the PDC Library Lockers. Lockers are located outside the HS Building at PDC and allow for item pick-up even when the library is closed.
Interlibrary Loan Services:
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides students, faculty, and staff access to books, book chapters, articles, and other items that are not available from the CSUSB libraries (Pfau and PDC). Digital copies of articles and book chapters usually arrive within 48 hours while physical books and other physical materials can take longer. This service is free for current CSUSB students, faculty, and staff.
You may request to pick up physical items either from the Palm Desert Campus Library or from the PDC Library Lockers. Lockers are located outside the HS Building at PDC and allow for item pick-up even when the library is closed. Check our Library Guide about Using Interlibrary Loan for step-by-step instructions. Read our ILL FAQ for more details.
For more guidance, consult with a librarian through our Ask a Librarian service.

Copyright Law Compliance
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use,"
that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
Library returns:
- Books may be returned in the library book return box located outside the Palm Desert Health Sciences building.
- Items checked out from either the San Bernardino campus or the Palm Desert campus may be returned at PDC.
- For materials that cannot be returned in the book return, such as laptops, please contact PDC library staff.
