Using Interlibrary Loan’s Services: CSU+ and ILLiad

If you need something that’s not available in this library, for example, a book, a DVD, or an article, we usually can get it for you through one or the other of our two services.

Find the option below that matches what you are looking for. There are links to detailed, illustrated, step-by-step instructions with examples. When in doubt, always go with the first option.

OPTION 1: For All Types of Items

Get help from a librarian. A librarian can doublecheck if the item is here or not; show you how to request it through the appropriate service (CSU+ or ILLiad) if it isn’t; and ensure that you have a correct and complete citation for it.

Consult a librarian in person at the Research Assistance Desk or online through our Ask a Librarian service.

OPTION 2: For Books and Media, Not Articles

A. CSU+ Use OneSearch to see if the item is available at any of the CSU libraries.

Follow the steps in our guide Get Books from Other CSU Libraries to find an item and place an order for it through our CSU+ service.

The CSU+ service is free and usually gets results in 2-3 working days. You will be notified by email when your item is available to pick up. You get to keep books for 60 days and media for 30 days. No renewals.

B. ILLiad If you do not find your item when you try CSU+, then follow the steps in our guide Get Books from Libraries Beyond the CSU System to place an order for it through our ILLiad service.

The ILLiad service is free and usually gets results for books and media in 5 days to 4 weeks. You will be notified by email when your item is available to pick up.

Copyright Law Compliance

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or

reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
