The four concentrations available to Spanish majors prepare you for the single-subject teaching credential and bilingual teaching and also easily apply to careers in journalism, advertising, writing, law, criminal justice, business, public services, healthcare-related fields, national security, diplomatic services, translation services, publishing, entertainment, and beyond.

Sample Courses

Advanced Spanish Language and Composition

Written and spoken Spanish to increase students' proficiency in advanced composition.

Intermediate Healthcare Spanish I

Develops students' oral and written Spanish language skills, as well as knowledge of cultures with particular attention to healthcare related vocabulary, concepts, and situations.

Applied Spanish Grammar

A detailed study of the grammatical structures of Spanish (phonetics, phonology, morphology, and syntax). Includes an overview of methods and materials used for teaching Spanish.

Bibiana Diaz
Bibiana Diaz, associate professor in the Department of World Languages and Literatures, loves to be current with teaching methodologies and, with the collaboration of the university’s Academic Technologies & Innovation, she has introduced Virtual Reality videos to her classes, using tools that allow the students to be in a fully immersed environment and to travel to places without leaving the classroom.
