eTIPS Research Experience

Program Overview

The eTIPS Research Experience is a semester‑long, faculty‑mentored undergraduate research initiative at CSUSB that equips students to explore cutting‑edge fields—such as AI, cybersecurity, biotechnology, and data science—with real-world impact. Through a structured program blending workshops, mentorship, and presentation opportunities, students receive stipends and hands-on learning experiences that bridge academic theory and industry application.


Program Timeline

  • Program Duration: January - April
  • Orientation: Kickoff session to introduce program expectations, workshops, and resources
  • Social Mixer: Mid‑program informal gathering for students, faculty, and industry professionals to network
  • Workshops: Workshops offered throughout the spring hosted by industry professionals.
  • Research Symposium: Culminating oral or poster presentation at the Research Week (April 14-16)

Eligibility & Application

Faculty

  • Must be full-time, tenured, or tenure-track faculty members at CSUSB.
  • Must have an active research project in emerging technology (e.g., AI, cybersecurity, biotech, data science).
  • Faculty are encouraged to identify students they have not previously mentored, as part of our commitment to ensuring equitable access to research opportunities for all students.

Students

  • Must be full-time undergraduates at CSUSB with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be enrolled for the full 2025–2026 academic year.
  • Each student receives a $1,520 stipend (paid hourly at $17.86/hr for up to 6 hours per week).
  • Students are expected to participate in required program activities and events.
  • Application Process: Faculty identify student participants.

Program Activities

  • Orientation: Introduces program scope, expectations, and workshops
  • Workshops: A series of workshops offered throughout the spring semester hosted by industry professionals.
  • Social Event: A relaxed mixer for networking and idea exchange between faculty, students, and industry professionals.
  • Research Week: Students are expected to present an oral or poster presentation at the annual Research Week (April 14-16).
