About Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at CSUSB
At Cal State San Bernardino, the master of arts in teaching english to speakers of other languages (TESOL) prepares you to teach English learners in K-12 schools, adult education programs, universities and international settings.
You can specialize in K-12 education, adult ESL, program management, or college-level English teaching. Coursework combines theory and practice, covering language acquisition, cultural influences on learning, instructional design, and assessment, while supervised fieldwork strengthens your classroom teaching skills.
The program can be completed in one, two or three years, with classes offered in the late afternoon and evening to accommodate working professionals. You may choose to study fully online, partially online, or in person, with fieldwork arranged for all learning formats.

Introduction to the study of language structure meaning and use for language teachers and educators; survey of first and second language acquisition processes and theories. Introduction to situational, geographical, and identity- based language variation.
Technology-Enhanced Language Learning
Survey and practice in technology applications for teaching English as an additional language in educational environments including electronic media, Internet, cloud-, mobile-, CD-ROM-, or DVD-based interactive materials, networks, and multimedia.
Literacy in TESOL
Introduction to teaching, assessing, and designing instruction for reading and writing, including emergent and basic literacy for children and adults; reading and writing skills and strategies; writing for personal, academic, and creative purposes; and critical literacy.
