If you’re an educator who’s ready to grow your skills, inspire others, and make a difference in your school or community, the Master of Arts in Education at Cal State San Bernardino is designed for you. 

This flexible hybrid program lets you choose a concentration in Elementary or Secondary Education, so you can align your coursework with your career goals.

With a focus on equity, reflection, and hands-on learning, you’ll deepen your teaching practice and strengthen your leadership abilities. And because the program can be completed in as little as two semesters, you can take the next step in your educational journey sooner than you think.

Careers in Education

Principal

With your M.A. in Education, you’ll be ready to take on new opportunities in teaching and leadership. 

Graduates often move into roles such as instructional coach, curriculum specialist, or teacher-leader, helping shape the way students learn and teachers grow. 

The degree can also open doors to doctoral study or lead to advancement in administration or education policy — wherever your passion for learning takes you.

Sample Courses

Educational Research: Inquiry into Classrooms

This foundational course will introduce you to inquiry-based research practices focused on teaching and learning in today’s classrooms. Students learn to analyze and apply data to improve instruction.

Leadership in Education

In this course you’ll explore teacher leadership at the classroom, school and district levels and leave equipped with the skills to lead instructional improvement and collaboration and advocate for policy.

Advanced Topics in Education

In this course, you'll learn the history and theory of elementary, secondary and post-secondary education within the setting of American society: underlying assumptions, organizational structure, leadership, policy, and educational change. Multiculturalism is studied in a balanced context relevant to the educational setting. Students apply what they learn to their educational philosophy, thereby connecting theory to the daily practice in the schools.

Opportunities for Students

As an M.A. in Education student at CSUSB, you’ll enjoy a flexible hybrid format that makes it easy to balance your studies with teaching or other responsibilities. You can even transfer up to 12 units from a CSUSB credential program, helping you finish your degree in as little as two semesters. Along the way, you’ll take part in workshops, research projects, and one-on-one mentorship with faculty who are dedicated to helping you grow as an equity-minded, reflective educator and leader.
