About Political Economy at CSUSB
Political economy explores how economies develop and how people, groups, and classes both shape — and are shaped by — economic systems. In this program, you’ll examine how factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, and class influence the economy and the social world around us.
Although the Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy is housed in the Department of Economics, the curriculum is interdisciplinary, drawing from areas such as ethnic studies, gender and sexuality studies, diversity and social justice, and sociology. This broader framework offers a more inclusive perspective than a traditional economics degree, giving you the tools to understand and analyze complex social and economic issues.
This program is an excellent foundation if you’re considering a career in law, government, nonprofits, labor organizations, or if you plan to pursue an advanced degree. Along the way, you’ll gain skills in research, critical thinking, and analysis that prepare you to navigate and make an impact in a rapidly changing world.
