About Dance (Minor Only) at CSUSB
The Dance minor at Cal State San Bernardino offers students an immersive and expressive exploration of movement, performance, choreography, and dance theory.
Open to students from all majors, the program provides training in a variety of dance styles—such as modern, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, social dance, and world dance traditions—while also introducing students to the cultural and historical contexts that shape these forms.
Students develop foundational skills in technique, artistic expression, creative process, and kinesthetic awareness. Coursework encourages students to discover their unique movement voice, engage thoughtfully with diverse dance traditions, and understand dance as a cultural, social, and aesthetic practice.
The minor complements majors in theatre, kinesiology, liberal studies, psychology, education, and any field where creativity, embodiment, and performance are valued.
Careers in Dance (Minor Only)
A Dance minor supports students pursuing careers that draw on creativity, physical expression, performance, and cultural engagement. It also strengthens transferable skills—discipline, collaboration, communication, and confidence—that enhance opportunities in many professions.
Possible career pathways include:
- Professional performance in dance companies, musical theatre, or commercial entertainment
- Choreography for stage, film, theatre, and community arts programs
- Dance education, youth dance instruction, and school or community teaching roles
- Movement coaching, fitness, and wellness fields such as yoga, Pilates, and somatic practices
- Arts administration for studios, performance venues, cultural organizations, and nonprofits
- Community arts outreach and cultural programming
- Creative roles in media and entertainment, including digital performance and multimedia production
The minor also provides preparation for graduate study in dance, performance studies, choreography, arts education, or related fields.

Dance techniques that emphasize concentration, imagination, body awareness and self-expression and are designed to develop creative leadership for parents, recreational leaders, elementary and secondary teachers.
