Our Theatre Arts program prepares students for success in live theatre, film, television, radio, education, business, and public relations—offering the versatility and confidence to thrive in creative and professional environments alike.

Studying theatre arts at CSUSB will help you choose your focus. Tailor your degree in one of five concentrations

  • Acting – Refine your performance craft and stage presence.
  • Design/Technical – Master the art of stage design, lighting, and production.
  • Drama Education – Inspire future performers as an educator.
  • Musical Theatre – Combine acting, singing, and movement for dynamic performances.
  • Theatre for Secondary Education – Prepare to teach and lead in high school theatre programs.

The program also provides broad-based learning. Study acting, directing, design, theatre history, and production to develop a well-rounded foundation.

And it provides hands-on experience. Participate in live performances, backstage work, and creative projects that showcase your talent.

Criticism of Plays in Performance

Critical analysis of public theatrical performance with an emphasis on the journalistic review. Textual analysis, artistic perception and aesthetic evaluation of acting, directing and design.

Styles of Acting

Studies and performance of selected styles in theatre.

Costume Design

Advanced Principles of costume design and rendering techniques.

Opportunities for Students

You’ll find many acting opportunities at CSUSB, but the university also boasts an award-winning technical program. You can also join Players of the Pear Garden, the first on-campus student organization, and theatre students are encouraged to work with faculty as assistant directors, designers, stage managers, and in theatre administration.
