Clinical/Counseling Psychology

About Clinical/Counseling Psychology at CSUSB

At Cal State San Bernardino, the master of science in clinical/counseling psychology is designed for students pursuing careers as Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) or related counseling professionals.

You’ll develop practical counseling skills through supervised training and clinical experience while deepening your understanding of psychological theory, research methodology and therapeutic practice. The program culminates in a thesis or comprehensive exam and an internship, providing you with the real-world experience needed for professional success.

Because admissions are limited to 10-15 students per year, you’ll benefit from personalized mentoring and close faculty support. The program also operates an on-campus psychology clinic, offering valuable hands-on clinical training.

The curriculum meets the educational requirements for licensure in California as an MFT as defined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, preparing graduates to work in clinical and community mental health settings, pursue private practice, and eventually supervise trainees and interns. Many graduates also continue on to doctoral programs in psychology or counseling.
