Careers in Applied Archaeology
A Career Rooted in Purpose and Possibility
According to the Society for American Archaeology, professional archaeologists find meaningful careers in a variety of settings — including federal, state, and tribal government agencies, museums, historic sites, colleges and universities, and cultural resource management (CRM) firms. Many also work with engineering firms that have CRM divisions or serve as independent consultants.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects faster-than-average job growth for archaeologists and anthropologists, highlighting a strong demand for professionals who understand both the science and the stewardship of cultural resources.
Sample Courses
Advanced Museum Research and Exhibition Development
Trains students to conduct curatorial research projects based in museum holdings. Coursework may contribute to planning exhibitions for area museums. Field trips and projects may be required.
GIS and Socio-Economic Applications
This course will prepare students with advanced knowledge and skills for several applications of GIS in Social sciences. It will include applications in but not limited to Urban Information Systems, Business and Market analysis, Geodemographic, Health, and Crime Analysis.
