FAQs for New Students

FAQs: We've Got Answers

Have a question about registration, your schedule, or where to get help? Below are some of the most common questions from new Coyotes—click through to find the info you need.

How do I register for classes?

To register, you’ll first need to complete Orientation—this step is required for all newly admitted undergraduates. First-Year students are placed into their first-semester courses through a process called Pack Enrollment (more on that below!). You’ll get your schedule before Orientation and can make changes during your session. If you need help, call First-Year Advising at (909) 537-7345 or email firstyearadvising@csusb.edu.

Transfer and returning students will meet with an academic advisor to plan and register for classes. Need help? Academic Advising is here to support you every step of the way.

If you’re an international student, please reach out to International Admissions for assistance.

What is Pack Enrollment?

Pack Enrollment is how CSUSB helps First-Year students get started with the right classes. Before you even attend Orientation, your schedule will be built for you by faculty and advisors based on your major and general education needs. You’ll be able to review and adjust it during Orientation. It’s a stress-free way to start strong!

What is a hold, and how do I clear it?

A hold is something that may prevent you from registering for classes. You can view your holds in your myCoyote portal under the “My Holds” section. It will show what type of hold you have, which office placed it, and how to clear it.

Some common holds include:

  • A01: Missing admission documents
  • A02: Admission canceled
  • F01: Financial aid verification in progress
  • Immunization holds: Upload your records through the Patient Portal in myCoyote or contact the Student Health Center at (909) 537-5241.

Still unsure? Call the Student Services Center at (909) 537-5000—they’re happy to help!

How do I plan my class schedule?
  • First-Year Students: You’ll be Pack Enrolled—your schedule is created for you. You’ll get to review and make changes during Orientation.
  • Transfer Students: You’ll meet with an academic advisor to plan your schedule based on your transfer credits and degree path. Need help? Academic Advising is here to support you every step of the way.
