CSUSB’s Master of Science in Special Education prepares educators like you to lead with compassion, research, and innovation. This graduate program offers advanced training in evidence-based practices and research methodologies that address today’s most critical topics in special education—such as:

  • Language development in diverse learners
  • Assessment for instruction and planning
  • Literacy and learning strategies
  • Creating inclusive and supportive learning environments

You can tailor your studies with concentrations in:

  • Early Childhood Special Education
  • Mild-to-Moderate Support Needs
  • Moderate-to-Severe Support Needs

This program is ideal for those pursuing or holding an Education Specialist credential. You must be currently enrolled in the credential program or already hold the credential to be eligible.

A master’s degree in special education opens the door for you to become not only a special education teacher, but also an instructional coordinator, behavior specialist, educational diagnostician, program director, consultant, or principal and to work in advocacy, policy and related fields such as corporate training.

Educating Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Evidence-based methods for the education and treatment of students in early childhood through age 22 with autism spectrum disorders.

Birth to Age Three Methods in Early Childhood Special Education

Screening, assessment, intervention and instructional strategies that are responsive to the individual needs of families who have children between birth and age three with disabilities (including children at risk and with low incidence disabilities).
