About Educational Specialist in School Psychology at CSUSB

At Cal State San Bernardino, the education specialist (Ed.S.) in school psychology program prepares you to support the academic, social and emotional well-being of students in diverse educational settings.

Over two years of coursework, you’ll study assessment, consultation, evidence-based intervention, multicultural counseling, research and measurement, and legal and ethical practices, while completing 450 hours of applied practica. In your third year, you’ll complete a 1,200-hour internship in a school setting, gaining real-world experience.

The program prepares you to take the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) comprehensive examination and meets all coursework requirements for the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in California, as well as advanced standards for school psychology specialization.

Psychology Lecturer

Graduates of the Ed.S. in school psychology program are prepared for meaningful careers in a range of educational and clinical environments, including public and private schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, and private practice.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth for school psychologists, counselors and advisors is projected to be faster than average, reflecting strong demand for professionals who can support students’ learning and mental health. 

The Ed.S. degree also provides a foundation for those who wish to pursue doctoral-level studies in psychology or education.

Miranda McIntyre, associate professor of psychology, is expanding CSUSB's capacity for world-class research by leading the SONA Lab. SONA is an online survey management system that creates an efficient and organized way to provide students the opportunity to learn about and participate in the research process, while providing faculty and student researchers access to student populations.
