About Criminal Justice, M.A. at CSUSB

The master of arts in criminal justice at Cal State San Bernardino is a fully online program designed for professionals already working in the criminal justice system or those seeking to advance their education in public service, law enforcement or related fields.

With limited prerequisite requirements, the program welcomes students with undergraduate degrees in criminal justice, as well as related disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, administration and the social sciences.

This flexible graduate program provides the advanced knowledge and analytical skills needed to understand complex issues in criminal justice, preparing you for leadership, policy and research roles in a rapidly evolving field.

Police Officers

An M.A. in criminal justice from CSUSB prepares you for leadership and specialized roles across the justice system and beyond. Graduates often pursue careers in:

Sample Courses

Homeland Security

Examination of homeland security events including radiological, biological, and chemical events. Emphasis will be given to prevention, preparedness, and response.

Crime in Public Spaces

Field research on the interrelationship between the built urban environment and crime. Involvement in a community project to study public places that generate and attract crime in order to develop creative solutions.

Juvenile Justice

History and development of the juvenile justice system. Includes review of current patterns and theories of juvenile crime and policy.

Opportunities for Students

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Cal State San Bernardino is nationally recognized for excellence in graduate education. As a student, you’ll gain access to two major research centers — the Criminal Justice Research Center and the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism — and benefit from strong partnerships with regional and national agencies, including local probation departments and police organizations.

A limited number of competitive graduate assistantships are available each year, offering paid research and teaching experience. Students also receive career and academic advising, internship support and opportunities to connect with peers through the Criminal Justice Club.
