Fire Science is coming to CSUSB in Fall 2027, launching a bold new pathway for students ready to lead on the front lines of one of California’s most urgent challenges. This Bachelor of Science in Fire Science blends the science of fire behavior with emergency response, leadership, and community risk reduction—preparing students to protect lives, communities, and ecosystems. Students study how fires start, spread, and are controlled, while developing skills in incident command, fire prevention, hazardous materials, emergency management, and fire service leadership. As wildfire seasons grow longer and more complex, this program prepares the next generation of professionals to respond, adapt, and lead with confidence in an evolving fire environment.
Careers in Fire Science, B.S.
Graduates of the Fire Science B.S. are prepared for a wide range of careers in fire service, emergency response, prevention, and leadership. Career paths include Firefighter, Fire Officer, Fire Captain, Fire Chief, Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Fire Prevention Specialist, Emergency Management Coordinator, Disaster Response Manager, Fire Protection Engineer, Community Risk Reduction Specialist, and Fire Training or Education Specialist. The degree also supports advancement into supervisory and management roles within fire departments and related agencies, as well as careers in alarm and security systems, emergency planning, and fire safety consulting. For many professionals, a bachelor’s degree is a key credential for promotion and leadership within the fire service.
