About Speech-Language Pathology, B.A. at CSUSB

The Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology is coming to CSUSB in Fall 2027, creating a powerful new pathway for students interested in communication sciences, healthcare, and human development. This interdisciplinary program provides a strong academic foundation in the biological, linguistic, developmental, and social aspects of human communication, with a focus on ethical practice, cultural responsiveness, and community engagement. Students study typical and disordered speech, language, hearing, and swallowing across the lifespan while gaining pre-professional preparation for graduate study. Designed to serve the diverse Inland Empire region, this program prepares students to support individuals and families through communication, access, and inclusion.

Graduates of the Speech-Language Pathology B.A. are prepared for entry-level roles and graduate study in communication sciences and disorders. Career paths include Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) and roles in allied health, educational support, early intervention programs, clinics, community agencies, and healthcare organizations. The degree also serves as direct preparation for graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology, leading to licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist, as well as advanced study in audiology, clinical research, or doctoral programs. Opportunities for Students

Students benefit from a pre-professional curriculum that integrates coursework, applied learning, and community engagement. Opportunities include clinical observation, service-learning experiences, and an optional Speech-Language Pathology Assistant practicum, helping students connect theory to practice. Students gain exposure to speech and language labs, audiology tools, and assistive communication technologies, building skills relevant to both employment and graduate study. With strong faculty mentorship, regional partnerships, and the option to complete a Certificate in Healthcare Spanish, students graduate well prepared for culturally responsive practice and advanced professional training.
