About Speech-Language Pathology, M.A. at CSUSB

The Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology is coming to CSUSB in Fall 2027, bringing a highly sought-after clinical graduate program to the Inland Empire for the first time at a public university. This rigorous, five-semester, cohort-based program prepares students to assess, diagnose, and treat communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. Combining advanced academic coursework with extensive supervised clinical experiences, students are trained to serve culturally and linguistically diverse communities with skill, empathy, and evidence-based practice. With strong regional demand and a commitment to access and equity, this program prepares graduates for professional certification, licensure, and meaningful careers that change lives.

Graduates of the M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology are prepared to become licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) working across a wide range of professional settings. Career paths include Speech-Language Pathologist in hospitals, medical centers, rehabilitation clinics, schools, early intervention programs, private practices, and community health organizations. Additional career opportunities include roles as Clinical Specialists, Speech-Language Pathology Supervisors, AAC Specialists, Voice and Swallowing Specialists, Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologists, and Clinical Researchers. Graduates may also pursue careers in higher education, clinical education, or doctoral study, contributing to research, teaching, and workforce development in the field.

Opportunities for Students

Students benefit from a clinically intensive curriculum that integrates theory, research, and practice from the first year of study. The program includes multiple clinical practica, providing hands-on experience with children and adults in diverse settings. Students train in soundproof therapy rooms, audiology and assessment labs, and language and speech science laboratories, using industry-standard clinical tools and technologies. With options for a thesis or comprehensive examination, strong faculty mentorship, and potential completion of a Certificate in Healthcare Spanish, graduates leave prepared to meet professional certification standards and regional workforce needs.
