The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at CSUSB prepares students to report, produce, and tell impactful stories in today’s fast-changing media landscape. The program blends news writing, multimedia storytelling, digital journalism, and media ethics, with a strong emphasis on civic engagement, social justice, and community reporting. Students gain hands-on experience through coursework in investigative, data, photo, video, and magazine journalism while developing critical thinking and digital literacy skills. Designed to serve the Inland Empire and beyond, the program prepares graduates to inform the public and amplify diverse voices through ethical, responsible journalism.

Graduates of the Journalism B.A. are prepared for careers across traditional, digital, and emerging media platforms. Career paths include Reporter, Multimedia Journalist, Digital Content Producer, Photojournalist, Video Journalist, Data Journalist, Editor, Social Media Producer, Public Relations Specialist, and Communications Writer. Meet Professor Lacey Kendall

Lacey Kendall, CSUSB faculty member and communication professional
Faculty member Lacey Kendall is a strong media and communication professional with a master's degree in communication studies from CSUSB. She is a specialist in broadcast programs, preparing students for new-age professional media leadership. Lacey was the driving force behind the university's Coyote Radio before she helped create Paws Radio, which remains a fixture of the Palm Desert Campus to this day.

Opportunities for New Students

Students gain extensive hands-on experience through community-based reporting, multimedia production, and investigative projects. Opportunities include working with student-run and faculty-supervised media outlets, such as The Coyote Chronicle, campus radio, and digital platforms. Students also engage with local news organizations, nonprofit media partners, and civic information initiatives, building professional portfolios and industry connections. Access to media labs, studios, and emerging storytelling technologies supports experiential learning from day one.
