Internships help students without public sector experience to not only gain that experience, but also take the first step towards getting a public sector job. Besides your own learning, internships allow an employer to get to know you and give you an advantage in applying for future jobs. Internships are optional for undergraduates and required for MPA students who do not already have public sector experience.
If you have not had public sector employment experience an internship will be required as a prerequisite for the MPA. The internship class is a P/F course that does NOT count as an MPA elective. Please contact Jessica Chavelz in the Student Services Center JB 134.
Internships can be an opportunity that you have developed. If you need help in securing a position, your first stop should be the CBPA Internship office. To get credit for an internship you must register for PA 575 (undergrad) or PA 675 (graduate). The Internship office will help you with all the administrative issues. The internship itself must be officially approved by the PA Department Chair, Dr. Jonathan Anderson.
