POSITION DESCRIPTION: CGM offers undergraduate and graduate students internship opportunities each semester to help enhance skills and training in project management, marketing, communications, public relations and graphics design. Selected applicants will receive a center orientation, training and the opportunity to connect to potential mentors in their desired career fields.

  1. CGM Office: For credit only (2-4 units) - offers undergraduate and graduate students several credit-based internships each semester. If interested, please submit resume and letter of intention to Jamie Ayala at jamie.ayala@csusb.edu, CGM's Program Manager. In the body of your email submission, please include which semester you are interested in having an internship. All applicants participate in a formal interview process.   2. Global Access Program Internship: CGM is pleased to support an all new internship program, where students are able to assist in helping US businesses do business abroad through specific market research. Approximately 10-15 hours per week depending on need. If interested, please send resume and letter of intent to cgm@csusb.edu.
  3. Global Incubator Internship: CGM has partnered with Planet63 to offer students the opportunity to hone and demonstrate entrepreneurial, communication, marketing, analytics and other skills; work with global businesses; and potentially negotiate a stake in their future careers. Planet63 is launching an online store showcasing Filippino brands. Student interns will assist with brand setup, test market data collection and business development. Approximately 15 hours depending on need. HRM - Human Resources Intern, CSUSB

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Under general supervision, assist HR representatives in various administrative duties/responsibilities particular to the specific HR unit; participate in job shadowing; assist staff and administrators with projects; apply fundamental HR concepts to operational tasks, processes, etc.; and research best practices and efficiencies to continuously improve unit and department. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Current CSUSB junior or senior, with a Human Resource concentration; Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; good writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to self-motivate to learn about HR work with attention to detail; maintain confidentiality

  • Education: Current enrollment in, or recently graduated from, a Bachelor's or Master's program at an accredited college or university in a program relevant to the specific internship. Some positions may require current enrollment in an accredited graduate school program. Recent graduates are eligible to intern for up to one year from their graduation date.

COMPANY OVERVIEW: The Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) Public Service Fellowship Program is a paid nine-month professional development opportunity that equips students to enter government careers. This Fellowship is a focused effort to allow participants to gain hands-on public sector experience in agencies in Western Riverside County while enriching the local community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Placement in the Fellowship Program is based on a matching process where the interests and abilities of the selected Fellow are paired with the opportunities at a prospective host agency. All Fellows work 20 to 30 hours a week at their host agency and receive compensation of $17.50 an hour. As an additional benefit, WRCOG also hosts monthly Professional Development Sessions, which provide informational and networking opportunities for participants.

Since its inception, the Program has facilitated six cohorts training 75 Fellows who have contributed 72,000 hours of service in Western Riverside County. Their work ranges from economic development efforts to transportation infrastructure projects. Many Fellow alumni are gainfully employed throughout Western Riverside County, while others have pursued advanced degrees at prestigious universities, and much more.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of the Project Director, Lead Program Coordinator, and a business counselor the Small Business Counselor Intern will learn to provide advisory assistance to clients of the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley Women’s Business Centers (IEWBC/CVWBC). IEWBC/CVWBC is a regional leader in business development that counsels and trains existing and start-up small businesses throughout the two-county region.

  • The incumbent will assist in the provision of one-on-one business counseling and assistance to clients in the areas of business planning, operations management, accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, or other area of small business development. Clientele are provided services in English and Spanish as needed.
  • The incumbent may have the opportunity to develop and assist to deliver orientation workshops for prospective and current local small business owners in response to identified needs, demands, and local area economic development.
  • The intern may assist in special projects as determined by the Project Director or Lead Program Coordinator and/or the needs of the small business community.
  • The incumbent will assist with updating client and program records; conduct follow-up activities to facilitate and enhance service delivery and assessment. 
  • The incumbent will perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a graduate student - MBA and MSE preferably.  

Experience and Education:

Applicants must have any combination of experience and education that would equal two (2) years of professional experience in small business operation, business, or providing assistance and counseling to small businesses.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Business, Management, Finance, Economics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish is highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Applicants must have knowledge of financial aspects of business, such as identifying sources of capital, loan analysis or packaging; principles and practices of business management including establishment of a new business; principles and requirements of business law, taxation, and employment regulations; data gathering and report writing; professional standards.
  • Applicants must have the ability to analyze a business; express ideas clearly and effectively in oral and written communications; develop and conduct oral presentations for groups; assist in the review of business plans; work cooperatively with persons from diverse economic and social backgrounds.
  • Applicants must be computer literate and have good typing skills.
  • Ability to conduct web-based research, use Social Media effectively, and proficiency in the latest versions of Microsoft Office Suite is required.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under assigned direction, assists in various levels of work designed to complement and supplement existing City programs. The Intern is a temporary position, limited to a specific duration. This position is utilized within various Departments of the City and the intern shall work under the assigned supervisory (college graduate) at an experience level equal to or greater than a management employee.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are typical for collegiate internships working at the City of San Bernardino. Any single internship position may perform all of these duties and/or may perform similar related duties not listed here. The below duties are designed to challenge the intern and provide meaningful and productive work results that are measurable:

  1. Plans, organizes and conducts administrative, management, financial and program analyses relating to assigned issues and/or programs.
  2. Researched and drafts a wide variety of materials on assigned issues, including reports, procedures, manuals, communication memoranda, presentations, proposed code or ordinance changes and other research materials; gathers supporting materials and develops written recommendations to the department management.
  3. Conducts research, analyzes data and drafts procedure documents to address identified needs and issues; drafts communications materials required for implementation.
  4. Develops data collection tools, including surveys and questionnaires; analyzes program and operational data and develops recommendations to improve productivity and effectiveness.
  5. Performs assigned department specific program activities to accomplish specific work goals and objectives. May interact with other departments and collaborate with staff on the accomplishment of assigned goals.
  6. Applies basic principles, tools and techniques of project planning and management specific to the assigned work objective.

Physical Demands and Working Environment: The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an intern to successfully perform the essential functions of this internship. Environment: Normal Office seating. Physical: Interns require sufficient mobility to work in an office setting and operate office equipment; transport materials and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read small print, numerical figures, computer screens and other printed documents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interns must be junior, senior, or graduate level CSUSB students.
  • Interns must have at least a 2.5 GPA to participate in the internship program.
  • Interns are encouraged to enroll in a 4-unit internship course. Interns must complete a minimum of 150 hours during the internship (10 weeks, 15 hours per week).
  • To earn internship credit, interns must complete and submit a midterm, final, timesheet, and evaluation as well as commit to the entire internship session (minimum of 10 weeks).
  • Be eligible to work in the United States.
  • The ideal intern will be energetic, dedicated, self-motivated and responsible. A willingness to learn is essential for a successful internship experience.

  • Attends Financial Services Agency trainings and meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will understand and interpret the principles, laws and procedures involved in financial recordkeeping, and clerical accounting functions as learned in course work and will be able to apply them in the workplace.

  • Education: Equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with major course work in Finance, Accounting, Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Licenses: Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment are required.
  • Desirable: Interested in pursuing a career in the field of Finance. Current enrollment in upper division courses of a bachelor's degree program in Finance, Accounting, Public or Business Administration, or a related field.  Experience working with the public.
