- Create, renew, and strengthen strategic relationships between Latino communities and SCE through networking and ongoing partnerships.
- Explore ways SCE can leverage opportunities to assist and better serve Latino communities and customers.

We write to invite you to the 2011 SCE ENLACES Inland Empire Latino Community Forum and Capacity-Building Workshop that will be held on Friday, May 13, at the Doral Desert Princess Resort Hotel in Cathedral City. To confirm your participation please click on the link provided.
The SCE forum last August in San Bernardino was an outstanding success on all counts, thanks to the community outreach and activation efforts. The SCE Forum addressed socio-economic issues facing our Latino residents, as also the LEAD Summit and the various on-going IE Regional Collaborative forums held throughout the year, feature regional and national leaders with viable solutions to the education challenges of our Latino students.
Looking forward many felt SCE should go eastward and hold the 2011 IE forum in the Coachella Valley in recognition of the large Latino population living and working in that area. Cathedral City seems the logical choice because of its large Latino population (59.9% Latino in 2010 according to the city website).
As the attached agenda indicates, this year's Forum will again provide essential information on SCE programs and services as well as grants and sponsorship opportunities for Latino-serving nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, and business associations. Key Edison executives, directors, and managers will discuss with participants their respective areas of responsibility with the goal of "Helping Our Communities Succeed" during a time of economic distress especially for income-qualified customers and their families and underserved communities.
In addition, this year's forum will offer a two-part Capacity Building Workshop "Strengthening Our Nonprofit Sector" using regional resources as recommended last year. The agenda lists topics that will be discussed including the use of no-cost social media resources, websites (the new business card), online application review, overview of required financials, and measurement strategies to benefit the organization's development efforts.
Like last year we will offer a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The program will start at 8:00 a.m. A networking luncheon is scheduled from Noon to 1:00 p.m. The Capacity Building Workshop following the SCE presentations will start at 10:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
Last April 4th, an Inland Empire Roundtable discussion was held on the regional findings of the Divided We Fail: Improving Completion and Closing Racial Gaps in California's Community Colleges report. We know the current low rates of completion and ethnic disparities are unacceptable, and it was wonderful to see the attendees' cross-sector energy galvanized to take action around increasing student success rate in the Inland Empire.
As the participants agreed, we will continue the conversation to find clear actions and next steps that individuals and organizations can take to ensure a better education for all students in the Inland Empire. We hope you'll join us...
