About Data Science at CSUSB

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science at CSUSB prepares students to analyze complex data and transform it into actionable insights across industries. This interdisciplinary program blends computer science, statistics, mathematics, and applied domain knowledge, providing strong technical and analytical foundations. Jointly administered by the School of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Mathematics, the program emphasizes ethical decision-making, teamwork, and real-world problem solving. As the first undergraduate Data Science degree in the Inland Empire CSU region, CSUSB offers students a competitive edge in a fast-growing field.

Meet Professor Haiyan Qiao, Ph.D.

Haiyan Qiao, PH.D.
Haiyan Qiao, professor at CSUSB’s School of Computer Science, teaches machine learning, embedded systems, digital circuit, circuit analysis and design, and computer architecture. Her teaching philosophy – "give a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for life" – encourages creative thinking and focusing on problem solving processes instead of merely presenting a solution.

Opportunities for Students
