About
The California State University Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (CSU-LSAMP) program is a joint project of the National Science Foundation, and the California State University. From the CSUS LSAMP website: CSU-LSAMP’s overall goal for the project is to contribute to the development of a STEM workforce, which is broadly inclusive, globally competitive, and prepared to participate at the frontiers of science. Specifically, CSU-LSAMP aims to:
- enhance the academic and professional preparation of CSU-LSAMP participants, most of whom are students from underrepresented minorities (URM), for careers in STEM;
- further improve persistence and graduation rates for CSU-LSAMP participants;
- increase aggregate production of STEM degrees awarded by the CSU to URM students;
- increase the number of CSU-LSAMP students who advance to STEM graduate study; and
- document, disseminate, and replicate undergraduate intervention models that increase access to, and success in STEM baccalaureate degree programs and facilitate admissions to STEM graduate programs.
In order to achieve these objectives, the CSU-LSAMP program at CSUSB facilitates:
- The LSAMP Summer Problem-Solving Workshop, designed to improve student problem-solving abilities in order to support success in STEM courses. This is a multi-week program that runs mostly in June. Students participating in the LSAMP Summer Workshop receive a stipend, and valuable support in their major.
- Support for Student Research in STEM.
- Information and support to obtain research opportunities for Juniors and Seniors, support for applying to graduate school, as well as support to attend conferences to present research or obtain information about graduate school.
See the Program Description tab for more information.
The 2024-2029 CSU-LSAMP program is funded by NSF grant EES-#2308501.
