Detailed Eligibility Requirements
Transfer Units
You must be an upper-division transfer student with at least:
- 60 transferable semester units, or
- 90 transferable quarter units
A maximum of 70 lower-division semester units may be accepted in transfer.
General Education
You must complete all lower-division general education requirements prior to admission.
Completing only the Golden Four does not satisfy the general education requirement. You must complete your full lower-division general education pattern before admission, typically through CSU GE Breadth or Cal-GETC certification.

Golden Four Requirement
All applicants must complete the Golden Four with a grade of C- or better in each course:
- English Communication (Area 1A)
- Critical Thinking (Area 1B)
- Oral Communication (Area 1C)
- Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning (Area 2)
CSU History, Constitution, and American Ideals Requirement
All applicants must complete the CSU History, Constitution, and American Ideals Requirement (also known as the American Institutions Requirement), commonly referred to as US-1, US-2, and US-3, prior to admission.
This requirement is typically satisfied by completing:
- One U.S. History course covering at least 100 years of U.S. history (US-1)
- One Political Science course covering:
- The U.S. Constitution and government (US-2)
- California state and local government (US-3)
Important Notes
The American Institutions requirement is one of the most commonly missed admission requirements for this program. Because this is a junior/senior-level degree completion program, students cannot complete this requirement after admission.
Applicants who have not completed US-1, US-2, and US-3 are not eligible for admission.
We strongly recommend reviewing your transcripts and confirming completion of this requirement with your college counselor before applying.
Not sure where you stand? We offer preliminary advising to help you understand the admission requirements and review your transfer coursework. Please note that this is not an official evaluation or admission decision.
Criminal Justice Prerequisite Courses
Prior to admission, you must complete the following lower-division courses or their equivalent:
- Introduction to the Criminal Justice System (CSUSB: CJUS 1101)
- Criminal Law (CSUSB: CJUS 1102)
Equivalent courses completed at another accredited college or university may satisfy these requirements. California community college students can use ASSIST.org to view articulated course equivalents.
