The Center for Cyber and AI at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) leads a range of national and statewide programs that strengthen cybersecurity education, workforce development, and research. The center has attracted nearly $100 million in grants and sponsored projects, demonstrating its leadership and impact in advancing cyber and AI initiatives. Together, these programs help CSUSB prepare the next generation of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence professionals while supporting California’s and the nation’s digital resilience.

Centers of Academic Excellence Community National Center (CAE)

CSUSB serves as the National Center for the Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) Community, designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In this national leadership role, CSUSB coordinates collaboration across CAE-designated institutions, advancing curriculum standards, faculty development, and nationwide initiatives that strengthen the cybersecurity education ecosystem.

Workforce Innovation Technology Hubs (WITH) Cyber

The WITH Cyber Project is a statewide cybersecurity workforce initiative led by CSUSB in partnership with Fresno State and San José State University. Funded through California’s Cybersecurity Regional Alliance, WITH builds educational pathways across all 23 CSU campuses through research, apprenticeships, mentorship, and outreach—helping develop California’s next generation of cyber professionals.

National Cybersecurity Training and Education (NCyTE) Center

As a partner in the NCyTE Center, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), CSUSB contributes to national efforts to expand cybersecurity education and strengthen faculty expertise. NCyTE develops curriculum, professional training resources, and academic pathways that promote excellence and innovation in cybersecurity education.

Inland Empire Cybersecurity Initiative (IECI) Apprenticeship

The IECI Apprenticeship Program builds a direct pipeline from classroom to career by connecting students with paid cybersecurity apprenticeships across the Inland Empire.
Funded through regional and federal partnerships, IECI helps students gain hands-on experience while supporting local employers in developing a skilled cyber workforce.

INSuRE Program

The Information Security Research and Education (INSuRE) program connects CSUSB students with real-world cybersecurity research problems sponsored by government and industry partners.
Working in multidisciplinary teams, students conduct applied research under faculty and professional mentorship—developing skills highly valued in national security and private-sector roles.

NAAIR AI Project

The National AI and Advanced Information Resilience (NAAIR) project advances research and education in artificial intelligence (AI) and information assurance. Through NAAIR, CSUSB faculty and students collaborate on projects exploring how AI technologies can improve cybersecurity resilience, defense, and innovation.
