CSUSB Air Force ROTC Det 002 Honor Guard Guidelines
Purpose
The CSUSB Air Force ROTC Det 002 Honor Guard represents the university, AFROTC detachment, and associated organizations through professional ceremonial support at official events. Members are expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, military bearing, discipline, and respect while participating in all Honor Guard activities.
General Expectations
- All Honor Guard members will conduct themselves professionally before, during, and after events.
- Members will maintain military customs and courtesies at all times while in uniform.
- Proper wear of the uniform is mandatory for all ceremonies and rehearsals.
- Members are expected to arrive prepared, punctual, and mission ready.
- Team members will follow instructions from Honor Guard leadership and event coordinators.
Attendance & Accountability
- Members must report to the designated location no later than the required show time.
- If unable to attend an assigned event, members must notify Honor Guard leadership as soon as possible.
- Repeated tardiness, absences, or lack of communication may result in removal from events or the program.
Uniform Standards
- Uniforms must comply with current AFROTC and Air Force grooming and appearance standards.
- Uniforms must be clean, serviceable, and properly fitted.
- Shoes/boots must be clean and polished.
- Unauthorized uniform items or accessories are prohibited.
Event Conduct
- Honor Guard members will treat all guests, coordinators, and participants with professionalism and respect.
- Members will maintain ceremonial discipline throughout the event.
- Members will not leave assigned areas unless directed by leadership.
- Cell phone use during ceremonies is prohibited unless required for official coordination.
Safety & Professional Environment
- Hazing, harassment, discrimination, or unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated.
- The Honor Guard team reserves the right to withdraw participation from any event involving unsafe conditions, inappropriate conduct, or violation of established standards.
- All participants and event coordinators are expected to maintain a respectful and professional environment.
Event Requirements for Coordinators
Event coordinators are responsible for:
- Providing accurate event information and timelines.
- Ensuring adequate space for staging and ceremony operations.
- Providing parking/access instructions when applicable.
- Providing the United States National Anthem through an audio system or live performer if required for the event. (Note: The Air Force ROTC Det 002 Honor Guard does not provide music. The requesting organization must arrange for the United States National Anthem and any other required ceremonial music through a live vocalist or approved audio playback system. No deviations from approved ceremonial music or procedures will be permitted.)
- Communicating any special requests or ceremonial requirements in advance.
Special Requests
Special requests are subject to Honor Guard availability, resources, and leadership approval.
Possible special requests may include:
- National Anthem singer - Recommendations with contact information
- Special presentation or recognition (i.e.: Prisoner of war ceremony)
- Additional ceremonial elements
- Special entrance or exit procedures
