Introductory Visits

Every year, faculty invite the Writing Center and the Graduate Writing Center to visit over 200 classes to talk about how writing consultants and student writers can work together on all writing projects at any stage of the writing process. These 10 - 15 minute introductions are great ways to introduce and remind students that the Writing Centers are a resource that will be with them at every stage of their academic journey.

Why schedule an introductory visit from the Writing Centers?

Faculty members from every discipline encourage their students to work with writing consultants at the Writing Centers because they see the positive impact it has on students’ writing growth. Beyond students’ immediate course, these visits can impact their future academic success because students introduced to our program in connection with one course later return to work with us for other courses and writing projects. If you teach courses often taken by transfer or graduate students, these introductions are a great way to introduce our campus’ academic success services to your students.

In our presentations, Writing Center consultants provide an overview of our services and briefly address:

  • Writing as a process that includes feedback and revision
  • How to prepare for and make the most of a writing consultation
  • How to make appointments in-person or online
