Mild/Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) Student Teaching Program

Program Overview:

The Mild to Moderate Support Needs Special Education (MMSN) Student Teaching Option at California State University, San Bernardino is a one to two year program leading to a Preliminary Education Specialist Instruction Credential: Mild to Moderate Support Needs with the English Learner (EL) Authorization. Candidates complete all coursework and supervised fieldwork prior to beginning full time in the special education classroom. Students are accepted into the program fall and spring semesters and are provided with an individualized course sequence that outlines required coursework. The course sequence is coordinated so candidates attend classes with the same students throughout the program at the San Bernardino or the Palm Desert Campus. Candidates are required to complete one, sixteen-week supervised fieldwork experiences. The supervisor provides direct support to the candidate and is the liaison between the personnel at the school site, district, and university.

The Special Education Program integrates credential coursework with the coursework requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Special Education. Candidates may earn their master's degree by completing four additional courses and a culminating experience (i.e., comprehensive examination or project).
