Interview with Louis
What kind of projects or tasks did you work on during your internship?
During my internship with NV Media, I was tasked to do social media content for one of the clients they have. The content was for the social media page: Beauty Empire Supply. This company is set to open soon. The types of content topics I was asked to do are; This or That, Versus, Coming Soon, What Would You Shop For? and Beauty Quotes. I did a few CapCut posts utilizing footage from an event the owner of NV Media flew out to in Orlando. And I got to do a few Sneak Peek posts for three lines that Beauty Empire Supply will be carrying when they launch. And attempted to create a logo for the owner of NV Media as she wanted to create a branch for the company, Empire Underground. And a few fliers for events she is holding; Sacred Radiance & Neighborhood Association. The final items I created on my last day were for her already existing app The Hook Up App, she needed visuals to represent why the app has: Easy Redemption, Exclusive Hot Deals, Local Discoveries, Personalized Notifications and The Hook Up to Your Favorite Place.
What was the day-to-day like, and what did you enjoy most about the experience?
- I appreciated that we met once a week to do follow ups on the content that is to be submitted in a timely manner, then the weeks we didn’t meet the assistant would follow up over the phone with comments or suggestions. I enjoyed that I got to do the majority of the work from home. And enjoyed the day we got to meet to shoot promo for a client of theirs.
What was one thing you learned about the industry or profession that surprised you?
- I’d have to say the tools they used to create social media content for their clients. I started using CapCut and Canva for my personal designs and social media posts.
How has this internship shaped your future career plans?
- This internship has given me the opportunity to see what a graphic designer can do in media marketing, content creating and event planning. On one of our meet days the owner of NV Media and I went out to one of their clients at Keriko Pollo y Tacos in Riverside to shoot a promo for them. I was featured in two posts.
What skills or confidence did you gain that you’ll carry forward?
- Skills I gained were utilizing other programs outside of Adobe that are just as fun and resourceful. Capcut/Canva make creating content simple. Canva also has an AI feature, I’m not a huge fan of it since it doesn’t accurately generate what you ask, but the graphics it made were easy to work with. I will definitely be adding these programs to my everyday use. I would have loved it if they had an actual product ready for Beauty Empire Supply to be creative and wild with products they know they’ll carry. But experiencing promotional content for restaurants, no matter how silly or in the way I felt doing it, was rewarding and gave me the confidence to do shoots for myself or for future clients.
What would you say to another student thinking about applying for an internship like this?
- Even if the internship isn’t specifically what you’re majoring in BUT you know it's under the same general umbrella, try it! I feel there’s a benefit to learning everything you can. My design focus is in 3D Concentration and this internship helped me focus on content creating and promotional marketing. So I’m looking forward to how I can combine the two in the future.
