Exploring Learning Through Virtual Worlds at CSUSB

Immersive Learning Space (PL003) San Bernardino

The Immersive Learning Space at CSUSB, located in the basement of the Pfau Library (PL003), is where innovation meets education. Faculty, staff, and students can experience the future of teaching, learning, and training through cutting-edge immersive technologies.

Equipped with Meta Quest 2 VR headsets, the space supports exploration, creativity, and collaboration through a growing library of virtual experiences. These experiences help users engage deeply, retain knowledge longer, and connect with global perspectives beyond classroom walls.

Immersive Learning Content

At the Immersive Learning Space, users can engage with a curated collection of immersive programs developed by the Multimedia & Immersive Technologies (MIT) team and the PAWS Radio & Multimedia Learning Lab at the Palm Desert Campus.

These interactive experiences are designed for education, creativity, and personal growth — offering opportunities to explore virtual environments, creative tools, and faculty-produced media projects.

Faculty can work with the MIT team to customize headset content for specific courses or departments.

PAWS Radio & Multimedia Learning Lab (IW 204) Palm Desert Campus

PAWS Radio is the official student-run radio station for CSUSB Palm Desert Campus and much more. The lab blends broadcasting, podcasting, video production, and immersive technology to prepare students for today’s digital industries. Under the guidance of Professor Lacey Kendall, students gain real-world experience creating professional multimedia projects.

“Our goal is to empower every student no matter their major with the digital and creative skills needed to thrive beyond CSUSB.”

Focusing on Student Success!

Through the Technology Practicum course and mentorship from Professor Lacey Kendall, Collin used VR technology to safely experience skydiving.

More than a thrill, the project transformed into a learning journey: Collin mastered VR systems, studio controls, audio boards, and video production tools, discovering how immersive tech can turn dreams into hands-on education.

CSUSB Faculty and Staff Produced Immersive Content

Dr. Michelle Russen from the Hospitality Management Department at CSUSB's Palm Desert Campus had her students create promotional 360-degree videos showcasing the Palm Desert and Coachella Valley areas. As part of their hospitality management course, students filmed, wrote scripts, recorded voice-overs, and edited the content themselves. Using immersive technology, they developed engaging media to promote the region’s attractions and hospitality opportunities.
