CSUSB Immersive Learning Space

What is an Immersive Learning Spaces

An immersive learning space is an interactive environment where technology and creativity meet. Through tools such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), motion capture, and 3D design platforms such as Blender and Unreal Engine, these spaces bring education to life.

Immersive learning goes beyond the traditional classroom, encouraging hands-on exploration, collaboration, and innovation. Students and faculty can engage with digital worlds that promote deeper learning and stronger content retention across disciplines.

The CSUSB Vision

At CSUSB, immersive learning is part of the ITS Strategic Plan 3.4: Immersive Learning Spaces.

Through the collaboration of the Multimedia & Immersive Technologies Department, xREAL Lab, and PAWS Radio & Multimedia Learning Lab, CSUSB is shaping the future of teaching and research through technology.

The Meta Quest VR headset is an all-in-one virtual reality device made by Meta that lets people experience immersive digital worlds without needing a computer or game console. Everything is built into the headset, including the screens, sensors, and computer, so users can simply put it on and start exploring. The headset uses special lenses and cameras to track your head and hand movements, creating a 3D environment that moves naturally as you do. With its handheld controllers, you can interact with virtual objects, play games, watch 360-degree videos, or explore educational simulations.
