Immersive Learning Spaces
An immersive learning space is an interactive environment that uses advanced technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, motion capture, and 3D design tools like Blender and Unreal Engine to create engaging, hands-on educational experiences. These spaces are designed to spark creativity, encourage collaboration, and enhance teaching and training in ways that promote deeper student engagement and stronger content retention. By moving beyond the limits of the traditional classroom, immersive learning spaces provide dynamic opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to explore, create, and apply knowledge in new and innovative ways.
At CSUSB, this vision is being realized through the ITS Strategic Plan 3.4: Immersive Learning Spaces. In the basement of the Pfau Library (PL003), the Multimedia and Immersive Technologies Department has developed a dedicated immersive learning space where faculty, staff, and students can experience and experiment with virtual reality content. Equipped with META Quest 2 headsets and other cutting-edge tools, this space serves as a hub for learning, exploration, and innovation. It supports the university’s mission to advance teaching and learning through technology while opening the door for new projects, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of immersive media that transforms both instruction and research.
