Principles of Supervision
Often times an individual is working in a supervisory role because they have demonstrated expert skills in their past positions. Now in the role of leading others, they are expected to use a new set of skills but may have not been given the opportunity to learn how to supervise effectively. Supervising in the modern workplace provides additional complexities, such as the challenge of meeting the needs of diverse teams in a remote work environment.
The Principles of Supervision workshop series focuses on developing supervisory skills with higher education in mind. Through learning, discussion, practice, and reflection, participants will gain a greater awareness of their own supervisory skills and learn strategies for more effectively leading others.
- Designed for managers and supervisors who are new to supervising others or just need a refresher.
- This workshop-style course is offered via 7 interactive modules with asynchronous and synchronous components.
- Topics cover fundamental skills such as directing and delegating work, performance management, providing feedback and team engagement.
To provide these crucial supervision skills, the Staff Development Center is excited to host Principles of Supervision cohorts at CSUSB, in partnership with Systemwide Learning & Development.
