Rochelle Reynoldson knows firsthand what a Cal State San Bernardino education can make possible. After earning two degrees at CSUSB, she had confidence in the university — and when her daughters began their own college journeys, she knew they could find the same opportunities and support that had shaped her experience.
Reynoldson earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from CSUSB in 2000, an education that helped launch a career that has led to her current role as a nurse manager for San Bernardino County. More than two decades later, she returned to campus — this time while balancing work and family — and earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in December 2024, completing concentrations in both management and human resources management. Through both experiences, she saw a university with strong academics, a respected reputation and the support to help students move toward their goals.
“I chose CSUSB because it felt like the right place for me,” Reynoldson said. “It was close to home, it was respected, and it was a university where I felt supported. I knew I wanted my girls to be here and be part of the legacy of this school.”
Rochelle’s experiences gave her something every parent wants when a child heads off to college: confidence in where they’re going. Today, both daughters attend CSUSB’s Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration. Caleigh is studying business administration with a concentration in management, while Paige is majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing.
For Reynoldson, returning to CSUSB for her MBA while her daughters were pursuing their own degrees also created an unexpected connection — and an experience she hopes other parents might consider for themselves.
“If there are parents out there who have thought about going back to earn a degree while their child is in college, it’s possible,” Reynoldson said. “With CSUSB’s online and in-person classes, there are options that can make it work. One of the best gifts you can give your children is to be the role model you want them to have. Earning our degrees at the same time opened up conversations about school, future career goals and life in general.”
That example was set for Reynoldson long before she became a parent herself. Her mother, Patricia Sadler, earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from CSUSB in 1993 and went on to pass the CPA exam and build a successful accounting career. Years later, she watched her daughter follow her to CSUSB — twice — and now gets to watch her granddaughters make the university their own.
“When I see my daughter and my granddaughters here now, it’s emotional,” Sadler said. “I never imagined back then that this would be our family’s story.”
Three generations. Four CSUSB students and alumni. And while they share a university, each has followed her own path. For Reynoldson, that may be the best endorsement of all: She knows what a CSUSB education did for her, and she trusts the university to help Caleigh and Paige discover where their own education will take them.
