Shari McMahan, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Cal State San Bernardino, was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award at the University of California Irvine 50th Anniversary Lauds & Laurels Award Ceremony.

McMahan received an engraved glass award and a certificate of recognition from Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, D-Laguna Beach, during the presentation which was held on Sept. 2 at the Paséa Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach. About 400 people attended the outdoor event.

McMahan, who joined CSUSB in 2016, becoming the first woman in university history to lead the faculty,  graduated from UC Irvine in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree and in 1992 with a Ph.D., both in social ecology.
