A group of Cal State San Bernardino students and faculty will soon embark on a musical adventure when they perform in an orchestral concert at the world-renowned Seoul Arts Center in South Korea on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Sponsored by the Shin Il Cultural Foundation Board of Directors and Dr. Se-Ung Lee, honorary chair of the foundation, the CSUSB Orchestra Concert will feature a mix of classical master works and folk songs from around the world, including Korea, Mexico, Peru, Cuba and Spain.

In addition to the CSUSB music community, the program will also include faculty and students from Seoul Cyber University.

“My vision for this concert is to use it as a vehicle for celebrating the partnership that Seoul Cyber University and Dr. Lee are forming with California State University, San Bernardino and Dr. Morales, and our respective music departments,” said Lucy Lewis, CSUSB assistant professor of music, who is conducting the concert.

“The College of Arts and Letters partnered with the division of Advancement, the Office of the President and Seoul Cyber University to bring 45 students plus faculty this October to give a concert in the most prestigious venue in South Korea,” CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales said during his address at this year’s Convocation. “This will be a life-changing and world-expanding opportunity for them.”

The day prior to the concert, Alumni Relations will host a CSUSB alumni reception at The Shilla Seoul’s Grand Ballroom. The event will feature dinner, a raffle and a magic show by illusionist Eun Gyeol Lee.

Several key CSUSB personnel will be attending the events in South Korea, including President Morales; Dong Man Kim, professor in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Administration; Robert Nava, vice president of University Advancement; Tatiana Karmanova, dean of the College of Extended and Global Education; Rueyling Chuang, interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters; Hyunkyoung Oh, faculty director of the Center for International Studies and Programs, and professor of kinesiology; and Crystal A. Wymer-Lucero ’07, director of Alumni Relations.

These programs were made possible through an endowment and a grant worth $498,000 created by the Korea Foundation in order to enhance the knowledge, understanding and awareness of Korean culture. Visit the Korea Foundation website to learn more.
