Written by Olabode Lawal/CSUSB Office of Strategic CommunicationThe Office of Pre-College Programs at Cal State San Bernardino will host the inaugural Student Leadership Conference “Calling All Leaders: Speak UP, Speak OUT” on Saturday, Feb.23, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., on campus. In partnership with GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs), Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search and First Star Academy, the Office of Pre-College Programs will present an opportunity for Inland Empire students to meet leaders who are professionals in their various fields and tutor them to be advocates and leaders for not only themselves, but their peers as well. The conference will take place in University Hall rooms featuring a list of speakers that includes: Jesse Felix, Keona Henderson, Johnny Ngo, Biane Arias, Gerardo Lorenzo, Pangia Yang and Angela Padilla among many others. High school students from the San Bernardino, Colton and Rialto unified school districts have been invited to attend the various workshops. The Office of Pre-College Programs serves low-income and first-generation students from these districts, and provides them with educational resources, cultural enrichment opportunities and advising services to promote post-secondary achievement. The topics to be covered by the workshop will focus on:

  • Public speaking;
  • Social media;
  • Politics;
  • Grit and persistence;
  • Networking;
  • Teamwork; and
  • Leadership styles.
